Handler, MD, CIME, is a board-certified Family Medicine physician and Certified Independent Medical Examiner with more than 31 years of experience spanning primary care, urgent care, telemedicine, and academic medicine. Her broad clinical background includes extensive management of both acute and chronic medical conditions, providing a well-rounded perspective on patient care, functional assessment, and accepted standards of care. She also has substantial, ongoing experience in COVID-19 diagnosis and management, including antiviral treatment selection, triage of patients to urgent or emergency care, and application of evolving national evidence-based guidelines. In addition to her active clinical and academic roles, Dr. Handler provides comprehensive medico-legal consulting services, including Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs), disability and functional capacity evaluations, standard-of-care and malpractice case reviews, peer review, medical necessity determinations, and clinical quality reviews. She currently provides medical expert opinions in ongoing medico-legal matters for attorneys, insurance carriers, government agencies, and healthcare organizations. Dr. Handler has also served as a medical expert for public access television and online patient education content, demonstrating her ability to communicate complex medical concepts clearly and accurately to diverse audiences. Dr. Handler holds the role as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Georgetown University, where she precepts residents and mentors medical students. She previously spent five years as Medstar eVisit Clinical Quality Review Lead for NPs and PAs, overseeing clinical quality, documentation standards, and adherence to standards of care.
